Stay : Tsavo East, Tsavo West & Amboseli National Parks Safari

Ready to explore the largest game park in Kenya? Tsavo East National Park is a historic reserve with a storied past of ferocious lions and great natural features. Its distinctive red-dust soil attracts lively herds of elephants who enjoy rolling around in the rosy-coloured earth. Sister park Tsavo West contrasts with its green hills and springs filled with hippos and crocodiles. All the big game are here but you’ll also find baboon, monkey, and the smaller bushbaby and dik-dik.

Not far off we’ll arrive at Amboseli National Park, a smaller reserve but with just as much wildlife. The families of elephants are so populous here the park has been called, ‘The Land of the Giants’. And another giant dominating the landscape is Africa’s tallest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro which stands like a giant, iconic monument at the park’s southern boundary. A busy wildlife refuge, you may find hyena, fox, jackal, monkey and all kinds of birdlife in the park’s marshes.

Detail of the stay : Tsavo East, Tsavo West & Amboseli National Parks Safari - 4 days

  • Tsavo East National Park
  • Tsavo West National Park
  • Amboseli National Park
  • Amboseli National Park

Day 1: Nairobi - Tsavo East: (340km - Appr 5 hrs)

Steps: Tsavo East National Park

Meal plan:Breakfast, lunch, dinner

6.00AM: Your driver/guide will pick up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport or Nairobi area residence for the drive to Tsavo East.

We’ll head out in your 4 x 4 Jeep on the Nairobi/Mombasa highway, stopping to stretch and get refreshments along the way.

We’ll enter the park at the southern entrance and take in the rugged landscape – this is where we should make our first animal sightings.

Look for giraffe, impala, and maybe some of the big cats, like lion or cheetah.

We’ll break for lunch, freshen up and journey out for more safari discoveries, perhaps some of the park’s red-dusted elephants.

On our afternoon game drive, you may see your first glorious African sunset in the wild. Not a bad way to finish up our first day on safari.

Tonight, we’ll stay in Tsavo East, at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.

Day 2: Tsavo East – Tsavo West

Steps: Tsavo West National Park

Meal plan:Breakfast,lunch,dinner

We’re on safari time and that means we’re up before the sun, ready to catch its bright orange rays bursting upon the plains and the just awakening wildlife.

We’ll hop in our 4 x 4 for an early game drive and appreciate the new day all around us expectant with possibilities. Let’s see who we can add to our wildlife checklist!

Breakfast will be at our accommodation and then another game drive as we depart the park for the quick trip over to Tsavo West.

The colours of this park are different with green rolling hills and magnificent baobab trees. Tsavo West hosts all of Africa’s Big Five including rhinos.

We’ll look for these amazing but endangered creatures in the park’s protected rhino sanctuary.

We’ll spend our second safari night at Tsavo West at your choice of lodge or tented camp.

Day 3: Tsavo West - Amboseli: 100kms Appr 2 hrs:

Steps: Amboseli National Park

Meal plan:Breakfast,lunch,dinner

We’ll be up before the birds as we journey in our 4 x 4. It’s another new day on the savannah and a perfect time for photos in the morning’s soft light.

Tsavo West has lots of surprises and one of them is Mzima Springs, a lush oasis in the middle of this rugged terrain.

We’ll stop here and walk amongst the greenery of this verdant spring, fed by thousands of gallons of fresh, clear water.

There’s hippo, crocodile, fish and lots of birdlife in this unexpected habitat. Thirsty citizens of the reserve like elephant and zebra also frequent this spot for its life-giving waters.

Now it’s time for the relatively short drive to Amboseli Park, arriving late morning.

Look for the tall summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro standing over the park.

We’ll have lunch, relax and head out for an afternoon safari. The game spotting is rich and active in Amboseli so we should soon see the park’s famous herds of elephants marching before Kilimanjaro. Have your camera ready.

At this time of day, the clouds often obscuring the mountain’s snowy peak may burn off revealing one of Africa’s most magnificent sights.

Day 4: Amboseli - Nairobi: 250kms: Appx: 3.5-4 hrs

Steps: Amboseli National Park

Meal plan:Breakfast,lunch

On our final safari morning we’ll celebrate by rising before the sun for a fabulous pre-breakfast game drive. Kilimanjaro’s peak may yet be unobstructed for one of Africa’s most iconic views.

Let’s look for elephants on their way to breakfast before enjoying ours at our accommodation. The beauty of nature surrounding us is one more reminder of this remarkable place and the journey we have taken.

We’ll enjoy one more mid-morning game drive looking for predators, grazers and all sorts of birdlife before heading back to Nairobi.

We should arrive there at about 16:30 hrs. (4:30 pm).

We’ll bring you to your hotel, residence or the airport.

4 days, 3 parks and lots of memories. We hope you had an unforgettable time. All of us at Natural World Kenya Safaris thank you for your trust in us and hope to see you for your next safari adventure!
