Day 1: Departure from Maroantsetra
Depart Maroantsetra early in the morning for Andranofotsy, and transfer by motorcycle to Mahalevona, a small traditional village and one of the park's entry points. At Andranofotsy, we also take a pirogue along a small river to facilitate our access to the Masoala forest, and begin our trek through the rainforest in the company of our guide and porters.
The hike takes around 6 to 8 hours to reach Fizoana, a small village on the edge of the forest where we'll spend the night.
Day 2: From Fizoana to Ampokafo
We continue hiking through the park, exploring the marked trails and discovering the unique flora and fauna.
Each day, plan a 7-8 hour hike to cover a significant distance.
To facilitate logistics, overnight stays are made with local people, who are accustomed to welcoming adventurers discovering this formidable natural world.
Day 3: Passage through Masoala Park
We continue our discovery through the park, exploring the marked trails and discovering the unique flora and fauna. At several stops, you'll have the opportunity to discover nature at close quarters.
Each day involves between 7 and 8 hours of actual walking. Plenty of rest along the way for the comfort of discovery.
To facilitate logistics, overnight stays are made with local people, who are used to welcoming adventurers discovering this formidable natural world.
Day 4: last day of Trek. Nature outing
We continue our trek through the forest until we reach the village of Marofinaritra, at the junction with the coastal track. From here, we'll take a motorcycle to Antalaha to avoid a fairly long, uninteresting connection. Arrive in Antalaha mid-afternoon and check into your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
