Stay : Adventures, baobabs and lagoons

This idea of stay allows you to have an idea of the possibilities on the western axis of the island. It will be necessary to combine this stay with a descent of the Tsiribihina river or directly come to Morondava to begin this itinerary.

This program allows you to discover a rather classical facet of the West of the island by coming in depth, visit the famous baobabs of the West, the exotic landscapes of the West and enjoy the lagoons with translucent waters of its coasts.

A good alternative to the classic tours that take you from point A to point B without any in-depth discovery. You will discover the west coast of the island as other travelers do not.

Detail of the stay : Adventures, baobabs and lagoons - 7 days

Day 1: Adventures in Menabe land

A day of introduction in this still unknown region, a landscape vaguely reminding Africa but still very typical with a unique vegetation. The route between Morondava and Belo sur Mer is quite adventurous, river crossing and ford, portions of hard mud or otherwise, soft sandy areas. The landscape is punctuated by majestic baobabs, at the end, you will ignore them, so much, there is. Passage of the salar of Belo sur mer at the end of the course before arriving at destination.

Installation on arrival and visit of the big village of fishermen in the afternoon. This site is well known for its ancestral shipbuilding workshops.

Day 2: The West from the inside

Departure after the breakfast and immersion in the interior of the lands in direction of Morombe. Passage by Manja for the lunch that we reach after a rather rough earth track. The landscape is always so disorienting.

We are in the middle of Sakalava land and the few villages we cross testify of the harshness of life in this region bathed by the sun almost all year long.

In the afternoon we cross the large rice fields of the Bas-Mangoky until we reach Morombe in the middle of the afternoon. Visit on foot of the big village of Morombe and installation in room.

Day 3: From side to side

Small connection of half a day until Andavadoaka and beginning of the lagoons with emerald colors. We cross again zones where we find giant baobabs to finally leave towards the coast and arrive on the emerald coast.

From here, the sea is emerald colored, we are finally in the tropics and welcome to Vezo land. The emeritus fishermen of the west.

Day 4: Emerald Coast

We take again the track to join the beaches of Ampasindava. On the way, we stop to visit the community of Mikea, a mysterious people who fled the warlike repressions of the time of the royalty as well as the colonization. They live from hunting and gathering, bartering and the dry forest.

Arrival at Ambatomiloha and installation. On the way, you will see baobab forests with the appearance of big bottles, another species.

The coast of Ampasindava is one of the most beautiful of the island, even the most beautiful.

Day 5: Rest and discovery of the Emerald Coast

First day of relaxation and discovery of this magnificent region. The white sand beaches blend with the sky. Enjoy the weather and the unique colors of this site.

Day 6: Relaxation and Farniente

Third day in paradise. Many excursions are proposed by the establishment. It's up to you to choose, on sea or on land, there is something for everyone.

Day 7: Final stretch

After all these days of discovery and relaxation on this emerald coast, day of connection to leave this coast. Destination of the day, Toliara, the big city of the south west. The landscape is always breathtaking, a mixture of Africa and Asia.

Arrival in Toliara at the end of the day after a stop along the way for lunch at the water's edge.
