Day 1

Arrival in Cairo

When you arrive in Cairo, a member of our team will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. The bustle of the capital can already be seen in the distance, between minarets and modern silhouettes. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or start to feel the rhythm of the city.

This is the start of a trip rich in historical landmarks. Contemporary Egypt awaits you, with traditions visible around every corner and the first glimpses of a capital that oscillates between memory and everyday life.

Memphis and Saqqara between royalty and architecture

Steps: Saqqarah

Ancient Memphis, long the capital of the unified kingdom, awaits you in the morning. Its remains tell the story of the first steps towards centralised power under the aegis of Pharaoh. The colossal Ramses II, lying on the ground, catches the eye with his size and finely sculpted features.

Not far from there, Saqqara reveals a pioneering piece of architecture: the Step Pyramid of Djoser. The first monumental structure built of cut stone, it marks the passage of an era and the boldness of an architectural genius named Imhotep. This site bears witness to a desire for permanence throughout the ages.

Giza, Cairo museum and souk

Steps: Plateau De Guiza

The great pyramids rise in the morning silence of the Giza plateau. Khéops, Khéphren and Mykérinos dominate the horizon, with the silent presence of the reclining Sphinx, a figure of vigilance and enigma. These structures have defied the centuries, retaining their allure despite the winds and conquerors.

In the afternoon, the Cairo Museum opens its rooms to you, filled with unique pieces of jewellery, sarcophagi, steles and statues with meticulous inscriptions. At the end of the day, a stroll through the Khan El-Khalili shopping district will give you a glimpse of another facet of the country: commercial, lively and colourful.

flight to Luxor and central temple

Steps: Louxor

After breakfast, you fly to Luxor. On arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy some free time. In the late afternoon, the central temple welcomes you in the golden light of dusk. Begun under Amenhotep III, it was completed by Ramses II and linked to Karnak by an alley lined with sphinxes.

Its harmonious style and monumental statues immerse you in a coherent architectural language, where every detail pays homage to the city's protective deities. The site also reflects the union between the political and the sacred in Theban town planning.

Boarding and the Karnak complex

Steps: Louxor

After a morning at leisure, you board the boat. The afternoon is devoted to Karnak, a complex built over 1,500 years by various rulers. The site's gigantic columns, obelisks and pylons reflect the prestige of the ancient empire.

Every room at Karnak serves as a stone book: rituals engraved, battles inscribed, offerings sculpted. The site shows how each pharaoh tried to add his mark to an already mythical place, in an impressive tangle of styles and periods.

West bank of Luxor

Steps: Louxor

Your day begins by crossing the Nile to the western bank, associated with the realm of the dead. The Valley of the Kings reveals tombs carved into the rock, some decorated with intricate scenes, hymns to the sun or mythical tales of the afterlife.

Next, visit the temple built by Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh, set against the mountain. Its elegant, linear terraced architecture contrasts with the verticality of the cliffs. Last stop: the two colossi sculpted at the entrance to a vanished temple. Sail to Edfu in the afternoon.

Edfu and Kom Ombo: the memory of worship

Steps: Edfou

In the morning, departure by horse-drawn carriage to the sanctuary of Edfu, dedicated to Horus. This is one of the best-preserved sanctuaries in Egypt, where you can admire the finesse of the iconography, the perfect proportions of the hypostyle hall and the balance of the sacred plan.

In the afternoon, the ship heads for Kom Ombo. This singular temple is shared by two gods: Horus and Sobek. Two altars, two chapels, two philosophies. This double cult reflects the symbolic organisation of a world divided between order and chaos, between heaven and earth, between eagle and crocodile.

Aswan between modern techniques and ancient beliefs

Steps: Assouan

Depart for the island of Agilika to visit the temple dedicated to Isis. Removed stone by stone after the construction of the high dam, this site offers an astonishing balance between nature and homage to protective forces.

In the afternoon, climb the dam of the Aswan High Dam. This colossal project, completed in 1971, regulated the Nile and generated energy for the whole country. There is a breathtaking view of Lake Nasser, a vast blue expanse in the heart of a desert landscape.

Felucca trip and free time

Steps: Assouan

After disembarking, the day gets off to a gentle start. In the late afternoon, take a trip on the Nile aboard a traditional felucca. The boat glides silently around Elephantine Island.

As an option, you can take a morning excursion to the temples of Abu Simbel, built under Ramses II. This masterly site was saved from the waters by an unprecedented international operation.

Departure

Steps: Assouan

After breakfast, transfer to Aswan airport or station, depending on your schedule. Egypt will have left a vivid and silent imprint on you, like the hieroglyphs it etches in our memories
