Detail of the stay : 48 hours in ancient Rome - 2 days

  • CIRCO MASSIMO - CIRCUS MAXIMUS
  • MUSEI CAPITOLINI
  • TERME DI CARACALLA (THERMES DE CARACALLA)
  • PANTHEON
  • TEATRO DI MARCELLO

Day 1: From the Colosseum to the Pantheon

Steps: Rome

Visit the Colosseum, the Forums and the Palatine. Afterwards, visit the Baths of Caracalla before lunch. If the opera is of interest to you, find out about the programme beforehand, as during the summer the baths are used as an open-air stage, a joy! While waiting for such an evening, you should still have time for a little walk along the Circo Massimo before going to discover the mouth of truth placed under the porch of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, and perhaps even risk putting your hand in the famous mouth (beware of liars, the mouth will eat your hand! - according to the legend). If the opera doesn't appeal to you, head to the Pantheon. The area around the building is full of cafes and restaurants, perfect for ending the day.

Day 2: Piazza del Campidoglio, Capitoline Museums and Via Appia Antica

Steps: Rome

Start the second day by walking along Via del Teatro Marcello to see what remains of the ancient theatre, before taking the stairs to Piazza del Campidoglio. The visit continues with the Forum of Trajan and its superb column, whose frescoes run the length of the forum and tell of Emperor Trajan's victory over the Dacians. Visit the Capitoline Museums before a short digestive break in the cafeteria of these institutions; the panorama is worth a look. Finally, walk along the Via Appia Antica and visit the catacombs. These are the last resting places of the early Christians.
