Detail of the stay : Getaway around Italy's great lakes - 3 days
Day 1: Lake Maggiore
Steps: Stresa, Îles Borromées, Isola Bella, Isola Dei Pescatori
Discover the western shore of Lake Maggiore. Stresa, the best-known resort, then Baveno, where you'll visit the park of Villa Taranto and its superb botanical garden featuring an important collection of exotic plants. Then on to the Borromean islands: Isola dei Pescatori, and Isola Bella for its sumptuous Italian gardens.
Day 2: Lake Orta
Steps: Cannero Riviera
Leave Lake Maggiore for Cannero Riviera, a health resort whose houses are planted amidst vineyards, orange, lemon and olive groves. Adjacent to the resort are the ruins of the Castles della Malpaga. Then, on to the smallest and most graceful of Lombardy's lakes: Orta. From Orta, you can take a boat to the island of San Giulio.
Day 3: Lake Como
The third and final stage of this escapade is the superb lakes of Como, which we cross to reach Bellagio, the most beautiful resort on the lake. Visit the town and, above all, the gardens of Villa Serbelloni. Then off to Como to visit the astonishing Silk Museum, before heading back to Lecco for an aperitif on a terrace in the hope of catching a glimpse of some movie stars.
