How to get there - Héraklion
Arrival in Heraklion
Steps: Chania - La Canée
Arrival at Nikos-Kazantzakis airport orHeraklion port. Stroll through the city centre up 25-Avgoustou Street, past the Morosini Fountain (Venizelou Square), and on to the market in Odos-1866 Street. In the afternoon, visit the archaeological museum of Heraklion. At the end of the day, you can walk along the Venetian city walls, see the tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis for literature lovers, and finish with a walk along the harbour towards the Koulès fortress as the sun is waning. Later in the evening, if you want to enjoy the nightlife, go for a drink in one of the bars in the Korai district or on Milatou Street.

Knossos Palace
Steps: Anogia
Visit Archanès, a village renowned for its wine. In the afternoon, you can head to the magnificent plateau of Nida to see the Ideon Andron cave in which, according to legend, Zeus was raised. You can also discover the picturesque mountain village ofAnogia, renowned for its lineage of musicians and weaving, where you can spend the evening listening to traditional music after tasting the local lamb, and sleep in. Here, you'll be able to appreciate the Cretan soul.
Hania
Steps: Chania - La Canée
Arrival in Hania. Discovery of the historical district and dinner in one of the taverns of the port. Then a last glass of raki in a typical kafeneion among musicians playing the lyra (Cretan lute).
To Kastelli-Kissamos
Steps: Rethymnon
Departure for Kastelli-Kissamos with a stop at Kolymbari and the Moni Gonia monastery on the Rodopos peninsula. Visit to the Kissamos archaeological museum (closed on Mondays). In the afternoon, visit the site of Falassarna and swim at the beautiful beach of the same name. Overnight in Kastelli or Falassarna.

Island of Gramvousa
Steps: Topolia
In the morning, boat excursions from Kissamos to the island of Gramvousa (and its fortress) and the beautiful bay of Belos. If you are motorized, you can go by car through a bumpy track. The hotel has a beautiful panoramic road for the traditional and ecological village of Milia (where you can eat and sleep in a natural and bucolic setting) by the village of Elos, a true oasis of chestnut trees, and the beautiful gorges of Topolia.
Elafonissi beach
Steps: Paleochora - Palaiochora
In the morning, departure for the superb lagoon-like beach ofElafonissi, after a visit to the monastery of Chrissoskalitissa a few kilometers away, on the edge of a cove. Then on to Paleohora, a peaceful little seaside resort where you'll spend the night.
By boat to Sougia
Steps: Loutro
Morning departure by boat for Sougia (where you leave your bags), visit the beautiful site of Lissos after about 1 hour 15 minutes' walk. Return to Sougia and spend the night there, or take the boat to Loutro, a tiny, charming blue-and-white port where you'll spend the night.
