Day 1: Casco Viejo and Indautxu
Steps: Bilbao
Spend the morning exploring Casco Viejo, the historic heart of the city. Stroll through its charming streets, and take the opportunity to visit theEuskal Museoa, which offers an interesting itinerary through Basque history, culture and traditions. Around midday, head to Plaza Nueva for a tour of the pintxos bars. After lunch, cross the ría to the San Francisco area, a mixed-race district where Bilbao's young designer boutiques are concentrated. After this shopping interlude, take a leisurely stroll to the Indautxu district to admire the interior of the Azkuna Zentroa cultural center, designed by Philippe Starck. You can then alternate between designer shopping and pintxo bars along Indautxu's elegant avenues. And to round off your first day in style, treat yourself to a cocktail at Terraza Yandiola, the district's trendy spot.
Day 2: Guggenheim Museum, Gran Vía and Jardines de Albia

Spend the whole morning visiting the Guggenheim Museum. First to admire its indescribable architecture, and then to discover its fascinating collections. At lunchtime, the museum's restaurant, Nerua, offers a fine dining experience for those who can afford it. Then head off to the Gran Vía for a spot of shopping, where you'll find all the major Spanish brands. Continue your stroll through the streets of Ensanche to admire its beautiful, eclectic buildings. At aperitif time, head for the pretty tree-lined square of Jardines de Albia to try out Café Iruña, an emblematic venue founded in 1903. Nearby, you'll find several tapas bars where you can try your hand at the art of txikiteo (pub crawl).
Day 3: Water ride, Museo de Bellas Artes and Getxo
Steps: Bilbao
We start the day on the water with a stand-up paddle along the ría, or a boat trip for the less sporty. This is a great opportunity to admire the Zubizuri Bridge and the Palacio Euskalduna. Those who can afford to splurge can even enjoy a gastronomic interlude in the palace's prestigious Etxanobe restaurant. After lunch, a visit to the Museo de Bellas Artes is a must. This Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most interesting in Spain. And to round off your stay in style, head for the nearby town of Getxo to admire the Puente Vizcaya, a true feat of engineering listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
