Read moreThe ski region of the Alpbachtal and Wildschönau valleys offers 109 km of pistes on 326 ha with 46 lifts (cable cars, ski pulls, etc.) between Reith im Alpbachtal to the west of Alpbach and Niederau to the north-east in the neighbouring valley. Snow sports enthusiasts can enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, sledging, dog sledding or one of the three snow parks in the resort. Three ski schools and numerous facilities are available for the younger ones. The area is also famous for its night skiing; floodlights illuminate 6 slopes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. In summer, four cable cars remain open. The first, in Reith im Alpbachtal, goes up to the Reither Kogel (1 337 m). The second, between Reith im Alpbachtal and Alpbach, takes you to the foothills of the Wiedersberger Horn (2,128 m), while the third, from the village of Niederau, climbs the Markachjoch (1,500 m). The last one, the Schatzbergbahn, starts in Wildschönau and climbs to 1,780 m. Skiing or hiking in these enchanting landscapes, green and flowery in the summer or covered with a thick blanket of snow in winter, is an unforgettable experience.
