A remarkable enclave inaugurated in 2004, with numerous art galleries and trendy, refined restaurants.
The Dubai International Financial Centre is not just the largest financial center in the Middle East. It is a remarkable enclave that combines architecture, industrial design, interior spaces and gardens. There are also numerous art galleries in Gate Village and many trendy and sophisticated restaurants. Inaugurated in 2004, it is composed of three zones where architects have competed with each other to transform these 48 hectares into a pedestrian area, lively both during the day and at night. From these three zones stands out the "Arc de Triomphe", a 15-storey building called the Gate building which offers an amazing perspective with Dubai's first skyscraper, the World Trade Center, in the distance and the twin Emirates Towers opposite. The 8-storey buildings surrounding the Gate building are built on top of arcades protected from the sun by a set of steel canvases or panels. Wooden bridges provide access to the Gate Village, whose architecture was entrusted to the firm Hopkins & Partners. Inspired by the city of Shibam in Yemen and the Creek of Dubai, they imagined these streets, narrow, with arcades thus well protected from the sun which makes the whole rather ecoresponsible. Moucharabiehs with contemporary arabesques stand out on the balconies of the buildings. The 15,000 employees of DIFC, with their very city profile, stroll through this car-free space all year round, as do the many residents who stroll through it in the evening.
