TOKYO DINING
Read moreHere, not surprisingly, we enjoy simple dishes inspired by Japanese cuisine. On the menu, hamburger teriyaki, udon salad, tonkatsu...Little advice, come to this restaurant on an empty stomach. In addition to a tasty and successful cuisine, the decoration contributes greatly to the charm of the establishment. It is a vast bric-a-brac, a mix between a mechanic's workshop and a museum dedicated to Japanese animation and pop culture. Eclecticism perfectly mastered and quite surprising. You won't know which place to look anymore.
EONYANGWA JIB BULGOGI
Read moreIt is difficult to make a more traditional (and more authentic) restaurant. At the entrance, one is greeted by a mountain of pots filled with flowers. Once inside you discover the magnificent decoration made of woodwork, calligraphy and pottery. There is even a small courtyard outside in zenitude. It is in this pure Korean style setting that we will taste a tasty and juicy bulgogi (beef marinated and then grilled). This dish is a real treat and will surely delight you! Be careful, it closes early.
VINTIQUE AROUND
Read moreThis establishment consists of 3 floors. The first is a café, the second is a photo studio and the third is the restaurant. The latter, resolutely modern with its stepped tables and dimmed lights, offers dishes inspired by Italian cuisine (pasta, risotto, gratins...). In addition to the quality of the food served, the restaurant (located on the heights) is famous for the magnificent view on the right of the pavilion and the illuminated city on the right. We strongly recommend going there in the evening, because that's where it takes all its chic!
HOBAK HAEMULKALGUKSU
Read moreVery good address, unpretentious because it only offers a few dishes, but all of them are extremely tasty. The flagship dishes of the establishment are mandu (ravioli filled with meat and vegetables). They can be eaten either simply steamed or fried, but still accompanied by a broth. It's up to you, but for us, steamed is much better! It is highly recommended to order separately a dish of kalguksu (noodles cut with a knife) in its seafood version.
DAKBAL EUI JIJON
Read moreIn this restaurant, we taste something surprising that is mostly eaten in Asia. It's small, hooked and cartilaginous... so? Yes, you've probably guessed it, it's chicken noodles! Koreans love it, especially as an accompaniment to their national soju. Served spicy and caramelized in gochujang and soy sauce, they're really good! So put on your plastic gloves and enjoy them with your fingers! For a typical and highly original experience! Other dishes are also available.
HANDDUK BAEGI
Read moreThis restaurant offers traditional Korean cuisine. The emphasis is on soups/stews. These include miyeokguk (seaweed soup), sundubu (spicy tofu stew), kinchijjigae (kimchi stew).... to name but a few. All very well executed. You can also order some meat or seafood dishes. We like this place because of the quality of the dishes, the low prices and the fact that it's open all hours.
GWANGJU HUIJIB
Read moreEat grilled fish at the Jalgachi market at a reasonable price? This is possible in this fabulous little restaurant where two cooks are on duty all day long cooking, breading and grilling fish and shellfish. On the right side of the street you will find this miraculous little restaurant. It's tiny, it's only 2 to 3 metres wide, and you might only recognize it by the phone number on a sign, but it doesn't taste much better... A small maritime feast in prospect for a bite to eat!
SEONGJEON SIKDANG
Read moreA restaurant "à la bonne franquette" to say it vulgarly but which proposes a simple, efficient and cheap Korean cuisine. No hesitation for the menu because there is only one. It consists of rice (what a surprise), fried fish, doenjang jjigae and a variety of side dishes. The best advice we can give you is to mix a little bit of everything in your big bowl. Next step, spoon it all out. A good address that doesn't look like much but is worth a visit.
INGIMYEONG
Read moreThis restaurant, well known in the area, offers huge land-sea dishes, in which shellfish, seafood, vegetables and meat blend their flavors in a spicy broth that warms the mouth as well as the heart. Several types of dishes are available (with or without meat, with lobster...) and prices vary according to what's inside. Yes, it's not the most affordable restaurant, but if you come with several people, you'll quickly get your money's worth (2 people minimum). A surprising and delicious discovery.
KIDARI HOET-JIP
Read moreLocated on the2nd floor of the Jagalchi market next to a host of other fish restaurants, we like this establishment for its sea view, its low tables, its good atmosphere and, of course, its cuisine! In this long restaurant, you'll find everything, based on fresh fish of course (raw, in soup...). But the set menu (30,000 won) with its bevy of small dishes is a marvel, and we highly recommend it. A little bonus: the menu is in English and the photos can help you make your selection.
SNOW PEA
Read moreA real good address for sushi, sashimi and rolls (very Americanized...). First of all, we love the decoration of the place, very fresh, modern, elegant and vegetal. Then, the whole of the prepared products breathe quality and know-how. And finally, the prices charged are more than reasonable, which leaves the door wide open to greediness. Rare enough in South Korea to be highlighted, there is even the opportunity to eat on one of the few tables set up outside. This place is gonna be a blast!
SOLBAT SIKDANG
Read moreAmong the vast choice of restaurants located in the market square adjacent to the entrance to Hahoe Village, this is one of the best options. The decor isn't stunning, but the food is delicious and the portions are generous. Their Andong Jjimdak (boiled chicken with soy and garlic) and Andong Gangodeungeo (grilled mackerel) are local specialties that are perfectly mastered here. Please note that, like most restaurants in the area, last orders are generally accepted until 5:30pm.
SUYEONG BONGA DWAEJI-GUKBAP
Read moreIt may not look like much from the outside, but this canteen is an excellent address, above all for its pork gukgap (rice soup). Popular with locals and tourists alike, it's one of the neighborhood's institutions. The portions are generous, the food delicious and the service fast and friendly. An added bonus is that it's open 24 hours a day and located right in the heart of the neighborhood. No excuse not to try it!
SAMCHON GUNG
Read moreIt is one of the most famous restaurants in hanjeongsik, the traditional Korean menus. The decoration of the restaurant may be very surprising, a mixture of Korean, Chinese and Japanese furniture straight out of an attic, which makes its charm somewhere, but the food and especially the many banchans, are very fine. And the prices are quite affordable for this kind of food. All in all, it is a very good address to discover Korean cuisine in all its traditional aspects.
GEU JIB BAETSAL
Read moreFresh daily fish straight from the Jagalchi market is the promise of this restaurant. Locals come here mainly to enjoy tuna and salmon sashimi, which are simply divine. The simplicity of the products is sometimes good! For harmonious culinary notes, we recommend mixing wasabi with soy sauce and delicately dipping your piece of fish in it. The setting is equally charming, with a traditional garden that's a little cluttered but adorable.
ANAPJEONG
Read moreEven if you come alone or in pairs, you will be in a room for at least 8 people. The reason? In addition to the meat or vegetarian dish you choose, dozens of banchan are brought. Although this practice is common in Korea, the quality of these accompaniments is remarkable for their originality and refinement: spicy soft crab, candied sardines, chestnut jelly, smoked salmon in rolls, etc. All this with a famous doenjang jjigae. In other words, a restaurant that is really worth a visit.
ULLEUNG YAKSO SUTBUL GARDEN
Read moreFor those who are fed up with fish, here is a local restaurant (address known to all the islanders), where you can enjoy a yakso bulgogi (Ulleungdo beef is very famous and tasty) as well as honghap bap. One appreciates being able to taste varieties of aromatic herbs that are specific to the island. Especially since the prices are reasonable and the waiters speak a few words of English... no reason to deprive oneself!
YEIJE
Read moreA delicious place from every point of view! In a Korean ambience blending tradition and modernity, seated on the floor or on chairs, you can enjoy menus from the royal court(hanjeongsik). Each dish is more succulent than the next, and presented with great delicacy. Like many Korean restaurants, it's best to go at lunchtime, as prices rise considerably in the evening. This is a very good address if you want to discover a real Korean meal, 100% authentic and traditional.
GEUPHAENGJANG
Read moreAccording to the locals, this restaurant has the best meat in Busan! This restaurant is famous for its Hanwoo galbi (Korean beef). Your ears will long remember the crackling sound of grilling meat, and your taste buds will treasure the delicious flavor of this juicy meat. For those who love raw meat, the house tartare is equally succulent.
Open since 1950, its reputation is well established, so meat lovers beware: you can go there with your eyes closed but your mouth wide open!
MOKSEOGWON
Read moreLocated near the entrance to Hahoe village, close to bus stops and parking, this is one of the best restaurants in the area. With its collection of wooden statues at the entrance, you won't want to miss it. The establishment is run by smiling ajuma ladies with limited English but a warm, laughing welcome. Large tables, hearty portions, rich, comforting cuisine ranging from chicken to fish, all at reasonable prices. In short, a very good address, to be enjoyed in a group or with the family.
CHILBULAM SIKDANG
Read moreThis small restaurant, which doesn't look like much at first glance, serves very good kalguksu (homemade noodles cut with a knife and served in a fragrant, non-spicy broth). They are really delicious and will please those who can't eat spicy (they will finally be able to eat something without having their tongue on fire). They can be served with a peacock, the famous Korean pancakes. In addition to the quality of the dishes it serves, this restaurant is located in a small garden right next to the pagodas. Very charming.
MENYASAN DAIME
Read moreBelonging to the famous Menya Sandaime chain (found in many cities), this tiny Japanese restaurant with its typical and warm atmosphere serves the best ramen (meat or fish noodle soup seasoned with miso) from Busan! It is very often full, you have to be patient. The best time to go there is at lunchtime, even if it is crowded, people eat quickly because work requires it. A real taste of Japan. And you can choose your favorite little one between Japanese ramen and Korean ramyeon.
KKACHIGUMEONGJIB
Read moreThis restaurant with its traditional architecture, which is not unlike Gyeongju, is THE restaurant to taste the famous heotjesabap, which could be hazardously translated as "fake funeral mass meals"! It is a local variation of bibimpab. Here it is cooked with soy sauce instead of the sacrosanct spicy sauce. As an accompaniment, you will be served a host of small dishes, including a succulent grilled and salted mackerel. It's simple, it's healthy, it's good. In short, it's really worth a try!
PUNGJEON BRUNCH CAFE
Read moreHalfway between Andong and Hahoe, just a few steps from the bus stop, this café-restaurant offers an ideal break for those wishing to fill their stomachs or take a break before or after visiting the traditional village. Nestled in an old renovated house and delicately decorated, this establishment offers a relaxing setting and fresh, quality cuisine. The menu features Western brunches as well as classic Korean dishes. The cute souvenir store is well worth a visit. The staff speak a little English.
LEE JAE MO PIZZA
Read moreIf you ask the locals which is the best pizza restaurant in town, they'll probably say Lee Jae Mo Pizza. The menu features pizzas with crispy dough and generous, tasty toppings. But here, no 4 cheeses or Neapolitan, just Korean-style pizzas (bulgogi, kimchi, sweet potato and almond). What a surprise! You can, of course, choose additional toppings and the size of your pizza. There are also a number of pasta dishes, including shangai pasta.
NAKJIMASIL
Read moreOn the menu? dish of small octopuses and shrimps in a spicy sauce (but not too much) with noodles made from sweet potato starch and Chinese cabbage. It's very good. Just follow the instructions on the table to cook perfectly. The only small shadow on the board is the waiting. The success of the establishment is such that it is sometimes necessary to take a ticket before a table becomes available and wait 15 minutes before being served. The food is delicious so we forgive them for this little flaw.
CHAKHAN MULGOGI
Read moreLocated in the heart of the city centre, this popular restaurant serves succulent grilled fish. You have a variety of fish to choose from and the price goes up with the number of varieties. Served whole on the table, they can be enjoyed gently, safely and deliciously. In addition to grilled fish you can also order a spicy stew or a seafood jeon. As the fish is grilled for a short time, there may be a bit of waiting time.
GYODONG SSAMBAB
Read moreWith its traditional architecture (like most buildings here) and its cosy wooden interior, it is one of the key places to taste the great local speciality, Ssambap, a rice dish served with meat, fresh vegetables and a host of garnishes, wrapped in salad leaves, much like a spring roll. The other two stars of the place are Gondalbi-Bibimbap whose originality is the anchovy and soy sauce and Yukbuchon-Yukgaejang, a royal dish made from the famous Gyeongju beef.
GURO SSAMBAP
Read moreLocated in a large traditional Korean house with a nice garden, this restaurant is the most famous in the city for ssambap (a kind of wrap made from salad and rice, which can be garnished as you wish). The mistress of the house, a sort of national monument of the ssambap, will welcome you warmly, but before 8:30 pm. The food is hearty, fresh and delicious, but you can't drink alcohol. It doesn't matter, because it's easy to be intoxicated by the divine flavour of the different dishes.
SINSEGYE JJIMDALK
Read moreThis restaurant is a real institution in the city. It is often crowded and it is better to go there for lunch than for dinner! We enjoy the local speciality of the jjimdalk 찜닭. Although this dish is found all over Korea, it is certainly the best here. These are chicken with vegetables and sweet potato starch noodles, all gently and deliciously braised in soy sauce (which gives them a touch of caramelization). A real treat highly recommended!
UMAWANG
Read moreThis fine restaurant, triumphantly popular in the city, specializes in galbitang (갈바탕). It's an exquisitely flavored soup with generous chunks of beef and green onions (among other things). The perfect dish for winter! For those wishing to eat spicy food, the restaurant also offers a tasty version of galbijjim (갈비찜), featuring delicately braised beef ribs. An address to be visited with eyes closed, but with taste buds ready to marvel!
SEASONING
Read moreNestled in a revisited romantic hanok, Seasoning is an elegant and charming address for lovers of Italian-Asian fusion cuisine, with an emphasis on inventive pasta dishes, including seasoning pasta (the house's signature dish) which is highly recommended. We meet trendy young people and couples in love in full date (you will surely see the ladies with a bouquet of flowers). If you are very hungry, choose rice dishes over pasta dishes, as they are much more generously served!
HAYEONOK
Read moreOn the menu? Bibimbap or mulnaegmyeon. Bibimbap is particularly good. As a reminder, it is a hot rice base that is garnished with various ingredients such as spinach, soya sprouts, mushrooms and, in its most authentic version, raw beef. Small precision, as a side dish (very numerous though) we will serve you among other things small roasted insects. We let ourselves be tempted by a touch of exoticism in our meal! It is a very good establishment (often crowded at lunchtime) to eat well and cheaply.
DANSEOKGA CHALBORI BREAD
Read moreWe'll go to this bakery to taste the famous Chalboribbang, a small pastry consisting of two thick pancakes made from barley flour. These two delicious crepes contain a surprising filling of red bean paste. A real local pride! You can eat them on the spot, of course, but you can also take some home in your suitcases as a souvenir (the shop has attractive gift boxes). We just deplore the excessive use of plastic packaging...
FAMOUS HANWOO RIBS
Read moreHere, lovers of barbecued beef will feel like they're in paradise! Here you can enjoy hanwoo (hanu) beef, a Korean breed of high quality and extreme delicacy. Here, we dine Korean-style on the floor in a simple, yet warm setting. For those who do not speak Korean, menu in English with pictures.
An address of quality and which does not fail to make it known (as attested by the many autographs of Korean celebrities who have come to eat here). A bit expensive if you come in a group, but it's worth the expense.
NO. 18 WANDANG
Read moreA veritable Busan institution, this well-known (and therefore quite touristy) restaurant has been open since 1948. It specializes in wandang (a kind of thin-skinned Korean dumpling ) served in an unspiced but very fragrant soup/broth. Different versions are available, but we recommend the one with udong (thick noodles). You can order one of the sets and accompany your wandang with kimbap or yubu chobap (rice stuffed into a fried tofu shell). A place where you can eat well and cheaply.
MANMAN KOKORO
Read moreThis large wooden restaurant, with the look of a Japanese Izaka, attracts crowds of young (and not so young) people who come to share a hotpot, the specialty, late into the night. We recommend the kimchihotpot (if you don't mind the spices) or the Korean bouillabaisse. A very festive (and often very noisy) atmosphere reigns here, to the sound of fashionable tunes and the laughter of Koreans who have already had a few drinks. The perfect place to start a long night, because yes, it's a 술집(suljib = drinking house) more than a restaurant per se.
DOSOL MAEUL
Read moreHoused in a picturesque Hanok, Dosol Maeul is an establishment renowned for its excellent Surisan Hanjeongsik, a traditional Korean meal consisting of more than fifteen small dishes, the famous banchan. We strongly recommend that you accompany this 100% sacramental meal with a bottle of makgeolli, a typical Korean rice wine. Whether for its enchanting setting or its delicious cuisine, everyone will find what they are looking for, a real nugget at more than reasonable prices! Well, typical and cheap, it's the ideal equation!
HONAM RESTAURANT
Read moreLike all the other restaurants on this street, the menu here offers one of the specialties unique to the city of Daegu: the muchimhoe. It is a dish (served really generously) made of vegetables and fish cut into very thin strips. Unsurprisingly, the whole is drizzled with a sweet and sour sauce and beautiful red chilli peppers (also spicy). Sensitive palates abstain! But rest assured, the muchimhoe is served with a cold clam soup. Not only is it welcome as a counterbalance to the chilli pepper, it's delicious.
SEOCHEON SUTBULKALBI
KKUIJEOMBBANG
Read moreLadies and Gentlemen, if you love beef from every angle, then feel free to push open the door to this barbecue restaurant. In small pieces, in strips, marinated or simply salted, you will be able to revel in the tasty beef that will be served to you. Note that the tartar is also very good. Some noodle dishes can also be ordered (yukgae ramyeon or doenjang ramyeon). In a very good restaurant which is certainly not the cheapest but which is easily forgiven once the dishes in the mouth.
NUNA HOLDALK
Read moreIf you like chicken and want to eat it in a slightly original way, out of the ordinary, then you've come to the right place. Among the various dishes on offer, the one that particularly caught our attention is a tray containing fine pieces of roast chicken, caramelized and spicy peppers and onions, tortillas, sauces (guacamole, yoghurt, cheese, barbecue, spicy). You will have understood the concept, you fill your tortillas as you wish. Very good address, quite crowded on weekends.
