Discover Seine-Et-Marne : Fine arts (Painting / Sculpture / Street art / Photo)
The birthplace of major artistic movements, Seine-et-Marne has long inspired painters, sculptors and architects, who in turn have enhanced its attractions. During the Renaissance, François I, patron of the arts and literature, brought together a number of Italian artists to decorate the royal residence. This was the first act of the Ecole de Fontainebleau, which blended Italian innovations with French traditions. Later, Le Brun, Le Vau and Le Nôtre turned Vaux-le-Vicomte into a jewel of the 17th century. From the 19th century onwards, the forest of Fontainebleau and its surroundings attracted renowned figures such as Courbet, Millet and Corot, precursors of the Barbizon School, followed by Sisley, the Neo-Impressionists, Lagny, Rosa Bonheur, Henri Chapu and then Bourdelle, Lalanne and the architects Viguier and Simounet, showing that the lands of the Seine-et-Marn region remain undeniable sources of inspiration.
