A long pilgrimage from the kings of France, the stage of the Chemin de Compostela, it originated in the fourth century when Saint Mathurin, evangelist and wizard born in this place in 288, went to Rome called by Emperor Maximien to heal his Folle daughter. After his arrival, he lived in Rome until his death and his remains were brought back to Larchant where a small chapel was built to collect it. Before the devotion of the pilgrims, the lords of Larchant built this sanctuary in 1153 by the architects of the cathedral of Paris. Partly destroyed, there is still a witness to popular fervour and sacred architecture of the th century.
