This is the original and slightly crazy spot to stay in Mwanza: these all-wood cabins are suspended on stilts above the rocks bordering Lake Victoria. An incomparable and affordable vacation setting. The cabins are original in that they all feature an island bath overlooking the lake. Another original feature is that the beds are also suspended, and move like a giant hammock. The cleanliness is impeccable, and the decor (especially the fancy plastic climbing ivy and the pretty pictures on the walls) just as good as the breakfast.

Opened in 2016, this pretty little twenty-room hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria right in Mwanzan is a really good address, frequented by both men in suits and rare visitors looking here for optimum comfort and good hotel service. Modern and bright, the rooms are air-conditioned, equipped with wi-fi and telephone, and beautifully decorated in matching shades of ochre and white. The courtyard is paved, a pity for the greenery, but the whole is really affordable and the proximity to the lake charming. Parking.

We love this local resort totally dedicated to vacations, with its pretty lakeside beach, where the restaurant's tables and chairs are planted, which also has a large lounge under a makuti roof. Individual bungalows with private bathrooms are affordable. The wooden floors, bright modern rooms and impeccable cleanliness make this an excellent address. Self-catering campsite, bar-restaurant with live music at weekends.

This avocado plantation eco-farm offers A-cabins, those little wooden houses with pointed "A"-shaped roofs, as well as classic brick bungalows (perhaps less charming than the former) and a fully-equipped detached house. The whole place is super-cosy and comfortable, whichever option you choose: everything is brand new and dapper, furnished in an elegant contemporary style. Superb restaurant serving avocado dishes in season.

Here's a stunning new address! This sumptuous lodge is made up of safari tents and bungalows on stilts skimming the shores of Lake Victoria. A truly spectacular setting. The safari tents are set on wooden platforms overlooking the canopy and the lake, equipped with rustic furniture typical of African lodges, air-conditioning and a pleasant bathroom. The deluxe tents have a plunge pool on their terrace, as do the larger hard-built rooms with a lounge, for an intimate plunge. The green setting is magnificent.
