In the heart of the city but in a quiet area by the river, wooden bungalows of various sizes welcome backpackers from all over the world. The comfort is rudimentary but the whole is well maintained. The essentials are there: mosquito nets, fans and towels. The garden brings a Zen touch to the establishment. The guesthouse also has a bar and a restaurant. The real plus of the place is its location, close to Walking Street but with calm nights. An excellent choice for small scholarships!

Located on the road to Mae Yen (the one leading to the temple of the same name). You must first cross a bridge to leave the area (go to the Bamboo bar) and continue straight at the fork. Bungalows of different sizes are scattered under the trees of a small park. Well-established buildings. A lot of charm. All rooms are ventilated with bathroom (hot water). This is the right place. Unfortunately, prices of some bungalows seem excessive in high season! The restaurant is open from October to May.

Close to the clock tower and bus terminal, the Golden Triangle Palace is located in a pleasant, even exotic setting, with a few one-storey buildings in the middle of a small park. In the heart of the city and yet very quiet, the rooms are very comfortable. Traditional style, with lots of woodwork and a typical Lanna decoration. Well maintained over the years, but a small renovation could modernize the whole. The breakfast served is very satisfying. Friendly and smiling staff.

This guesthouse, opened in the early 2000s, located in the centre of Chiang Rai, offers small clean rooms, set back from a busy street during the day but relatively quiet at night. The rooms have a bathroom (hot water) and a TV. The whole is a little outdated but will satisfy those who want a more family atmosphere than in modern guesthouses. A Thai language school is nearby, this can be an opportunity to learn 2-3 words in the local language. For a night or two only.

Wooded and modest establishment in a pleasant garden, at the bottom of an impasse leading to Jed Yod Street, not far from Siam Corner restaurant. Medium or small rooms, with bathroom. Breakfast in the garden. Welcome.

Recent rooms spread in several wooden buildings. Most have a private bathroom. In the main house, several rooms, furnished in dormitories, have a shared bathroom. Good value for money. The terrace overlooking the Mekong has charm. No restaurant, however.

Located halfway between the bus stop (south) and the pier to go to Laos (north), this establishment is located on the edge of the road, after a small impasse. Several wooden bungalows, large enough (with private bathroom adjacent), are located in a green garden. Six other rooms are grouped in a hard building. Friendly welcome. The terrace of the restaurant overlooks the river (opening from 7 a. m. to 8 p. m.). The whole installation gives a certain charm. The house is also a travel agency.

The rooms on the floor are bright and large, with private shower (hot water).

Those located on the street level do not have a toilet cabinet and are less well maintained: they also feel moisi! Random home: Sometimes smiling, often impassive.

The hotel is the second behind the bus stop on the left bank. The rooms are divided around an inner courtyard: construction of bamboo or brick. They are comfortable and all equipped with a bathroom (hot water). The place is quiet. The restaurant terrace is located above the river (open from 7 h to 22 h).

Small hotel buried in the leaves of its access yard. The location is quiet and the average rooms are acceptable for the price requested. No TV. The restaurant is open all day. A charming address for small budgets. Free shuttle from the airport or train station. The Eagle House 2 guesthouse is just a few minutes away, also in a very green and charming setting.

The establishment, which created a small three-storey building, was increased by a building body: New rooms have been created. The facilities are correct and very clean. All rooms have private bathroom and TV. Rates are rising slowly, but value for money remains honest.
