AROON RAI

Thai restaurant
4/5
3 reviews

This place is frequented by Thai regulars, a sign of good value for money. Unpretentious restaurant, whose very ordinary setting is more like a canteen, but which has grown in size as its reputation has grown. You will be able to taste good Thai specialities such as pork curry, khao soi, and chicken in coconut milk. For dessert, let yourself be tempted by a scoop of coconut ice cream or sticky rice with mango. A good little place to get your strength back in Chiang Mai!

PAI RIVER CORNER RESORT & RESTAURANT

Thai restaurant €€
4/5
1 review

The restaurant of the Resort of the same name probably has one of the best locations in the city centre: on the river, with a nice view on the wooden bridge. The large terrace has a bucolic atmosphere where it is pleasant to stroll. The cuisine is all in all classic, with Thai dishes, burgers, salads, fresh fruit shakes... It's quite successful and the prices are very honest. You can also come here to enjoy a cold beer.

LARB SANAM KEERA

Thai restaurant €€

An excellent place for those wishing to sample traditional Lanna cuisine, prepared to the highest standards. Very popular with locals, this typical, unpretentious restaurant offers a range of specialties: grilled pork, offal, beef, stuffed chicken, lanna sausages, soups, curries, various nam prik, several recipes for papaya salads (som tam)... The menu is exhaustive, and here dishes are shared between guests, Thai-style! The portions are generous and the flavours authentic. A recommended address.

NONG BEER RESTAURANT

Thai restaurant

A small, traditional Thai restaurant in Pai, without the fuss. Located on a corner of Walking Street, this locally-colored establishment offers decent food. Classic Siamese dishes are on the menu, from Khao Soi to Pad Thai. The service is friendly, and you can choose to sit in the open-plan dining room or in another air-conditioned one. The only downside is that portions are a little small. In the evening, the restaurant is a little hidden by the Night Market stalls, but a raised sign indicates its location. Nice and unpretentious.

WHERE DO WE GO

Thai restaurant

We fell in love with this small establishment located between the old Chinese market and the Wang River. Housed in a traditional wooden house, this restaurant-bar offers revisited Isaan cuisine. The menu is limited, but the dishes are carefully prepared. The Isaan-style salad with smoked salmon was our favorite. The only drawback is that the dishes are not very copious. The decor is superb, the place very welcoming, warm, almost lounge-like. Special mention must go to the bar, where the subdued lighting is a real eye-catcher.

OLD CHIANG MAI CULTURAL CENTER

Thai restaurant €€

In this cultural centre you can enjoy the culinary specialities of Lanna, in front of a show, a musical fresco composed of a sequence of traditional dances. It's very touristy, but really interesting. This reconstructed village is located to the southwest and outside the old town, and offers a nice show that has been around for over thirty years now! There is also a small local craft market and an old religious building.

A charming little establishment near the north gate of the old town. Run by a friendly couple, this restaurant has a simple, pleasant atmosphere, with an attractive decor. The menu features the classics of Thai cuisine: pad thai, pad krapao, fried rice, all kinds of noodles, panang curry, green curry with vegetables... It's all good! Try the excellent khao soi, Chiang Mai's specialty, prepared with chicken or beef. A very good deal for lunch, especially as prices are very low.

BAI FERN RESTAURANT

Thai restaurant €€

Wooden decoration of the best effect: nice space in front of the bar, with teak floor. Large room occupying the back of the restaurant. Known for its good reputation, it is somewhat outlying to the south of Lake Chong Kham. The front and back room are open to the outside and the light is dimmed by curtains of green plants: tropical atmosphere guaranteed. The setting is very pleasant, with tablecloths on the tables and a flowered garden on the terrace. Various Thai specialities à la carte. Musicians some nights. Recommended.

KAI MOOK

Thai restaurant

Downtown restaurant located on a small side street between the lake and the main avenue. Completely renovated in 2021, it now has a very pleasant modern setting with high ceilings. Classic Thai cuisine for the most part: pad thai, morning glory... The food is quite simple but of good quality. Menu available in English. The waiters are smiling and attentive. The only drawback is that the place is a little difficult to find, the street where it is located is close to Ngamta Hotel. Recommended.

SP CHICKEN

Thai restaurant

Close to Wat Phra Singh, here is an excellent address which proposes a restricted menu but with quality dishes. On the menu is their famous spit-roasted chicken, of course, but also classic Thai dishes, soups, salads... We recommend the bamboo shoot salad, the som tam or the chicken with cashew nuts. The products are fresh and the portions correct. The room, spacious and ventilated, is pleasant. The place is mainly frequented by locals and Asian tourists.

PAI SIAM BAR & BISTRO

Thai restaurant €€

This restaurant is located at the corner of Walking Street and the street leading to the bridge. The place is quite chic and the prices are quite high. You can sit on stools, at a table inside or on the large terrace where you can observe the comings and goings of people. Excellent pizzas, tapas and some Thai dishes are available. As for drinks, cocktails, wines and good espressos. The lounge music is pleasant, without being too loud. A bit of a "bobo" atmosphere, which is different from other Pai establishments.

KHAO SOI NOM TAN

Thai restaurant

This tiny establishment with its pastel-blue walls is well worth a visit. It's close to Wat Phumin. Here you can sample some excellent noodle soup specialties from the north of the country: the famous Khao Soi and Nam Ngeaw. The Khao Soi follows the Nan recipe: a spicy broth with a dash of concentrated coconut milk, with a choice of beef or chicken. Other more classic noodles are available, as well as roast pork over rice. Right next door is Hot Bread, a small, friendly restaurant offering more international cuisine.

Also on the menu: noodles in tomato sauce, fried pork with rice, chicken noodles, pad kra pao with seafood, etc. A pleasant place for a lunch break. Huan Phuka is the ideal restaurant for a taste of authentic Lanna cuisine. If you're unfamiliar, try the appetizer platter with nam prik nua and nam prik ong, northern specialties concocted with spices to accompany steamed vegetables, pork sausage and glutinous rice. Another house specialty is grilled pork ribs. Wide choice of meats, fish, salads... Beware, however, that some dishes are slightly spicy. Pleasant service.

CHIANG MAI HORUMON

Meat restaurant €€

Located in the Santitham district, this restaurant is well known to locals and expats alike. Often full, you'll probably have to wait to get a table. The reason for its success? Excellent meats (beef, pork, offal, chicken) and vegetables to grill yourself on a small charcoal barbecue. The menu is extensive, with a choice of cuts of meat, prepared dishes, gyozas, sashimi and more. The atmosphere is friendly and the service prompt. The dining room is open and airy, and it can get pretty hot in front of the barbecue!

A special place in the hearts of Lampang's residents, if the attendance is anything to go by! Just above the old Chinese market, Aroy One Baht is packed every night. Located in an old wooden building, you can either sit near the kitchen around charming sewing tables, or upstairs. The success is due to the particularity of the place: the portions are quite small and the prices are very low, so you can order several plates per person to taste a maximum of dishes! Alcohol is also served.
