While each of the Balearic islands has its own distinctive character, Menorca - classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since 1993 - is undoubtedly the one with the wildest landscapes, the best preserved coves and the clearest waters! Famous for its family atmosphere and rural setting, Spain's easternmost territory is also known for its Camí de Cavalls ("horse trail"), a 200 km long path that follows the island's coastline, once used to protect it from pirate invasions. Popular with hikers for its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, it is also a favourite with horseback riders. To make the most of all the beauties of beautiful Menorca, what could be better than to settle in the middle of nature and near a prestigious stud farm?

A charming hotel

In the heart of rural Menorca, not far fromEs Migjorn Gran and the south coast, this typical old farmhouse of the island's interior reveals its immaculate white facade amidst almost 90 hectares of carefully tended gardens. More than just accommodation, Binigaus Vell offers a total experience, an exclusive immersion in the rural world of Minorca. From the rooms (4 categories) to the communal areas, there is a clever combination of the traditional and the contemporary. Rustic and chic at the same time, the raw and local materials are highlighted without sacrificing the most modern comfort: the 27 rooms are all equipped with air conditioning, an internet connection, a safe and the most comfortable bedding!

The outdoor spaces, vast and planted with trees, are nothing but tranquility and harmony. The spacious salt water pool in the center of the garden with its constellation of deckchairs is indeed a seductive invitation to the most relaxed contemplation. If you are so inclined, why not go to one of the nearby beaches: the famous urban beach of Sant Tomàs or its wild neighbor, Binigaus beach, or the coves of Trebalúger, Fustam and Escorxada. The Binigaus Vell oasis would not be complete without its high quality gastronomic offer: every evening, you will have the opportunity to choose from the appetizing restaurant menu some typical dishes elaborated with know-how. To be accompanied by some very good wines! The breakfast, a farandole of selected local products, is a real marvel.

An equestrian adventure!

Beyond a relaxing stay, Binigaus Vell offers an authentic encounter with the essence of Menorca through its flora, but also its fauna! And it is naturally on the back of a Menorcan thoroughbred that the experience takes on its full meaning. To do this, go to the hotel's stud farm, 3 km away. Slender in shape, with a deep black coat, the Menorcan horse is robust, energetic and quiet in character. If you wish to ride one, you will be required to know how to dominate your mount at all paces without being an experienced rider. This is one of the main advantages of Binigaus Vell: horseback riding. The hotel offers several packages including accommodation, meals and guided tours.

It must be said that the Camí de Cavalls is an attraction in itself, which attracts the most demanding walkers! Following some sections of it is like following in the footsteps of the old customs officers: if the known archives assure us that the path already existed in the 18th century, the horse already had a defensive role in the 14th century. From a landscape point of view, the itineraries are breathtaking, and this almost all year round, given the particularly mild weather of the island. The possibilities in terms of walks are as numerous as the nature is varied. For example, you can get close to the Barranc de Binigaus cliff, which houses the largest cave in Menorca: the Cova des Coloms! In S'Albufera des Grau, a marvelous protected wetland in the northeast, you can venture onto wild beaches, cross streams and greet rare birds. In the extreme north, Cala Pregonda reveals the softness of its dunes... In short, just pick from the catalog, there is no lack of treasures!

To the west !

If your wild ride takes you to the outskirts of Ciutadella, the old capital of the island, drop your bag in one of the 41 rooms of the Hotel Playa Santandria, completely renovated in 2022. Run by the same team as Binigaus Vell, this adult-only establishment has the same high standards of quality, both in service and location: from the hotel's terrace, you can be lulled by the shifting hues of a sunset that becomes more moving every day.
