Which means of transport to use à Ibiza?
Organize your stay à Ibiza
From the airport to the city centre à Ibiza
Ibiza airport is located 7.5 km from Eivissa town center, in the municipality of Sant Josep. There are several ways to get to the city center from the airport:
By cab. To get to downtown Ibiza from the airport, expect to pay around €18 for the journey, and a few euros more for the night rate. Since November 2023, the VTC app Uber has been operating on the island.
By bus. Much cheaper than cabs (around €3.50 per journey). Line 10 runs summer and winter to the capital (www.ibizabus.com). Allow around 20 minutes for the journey. Buses run every 20 minutes in summer (15 minutes in July and August) from 6am to midnight, and every 30 minutes in winter from 7am to 11.30pm. In the city center, the bus will drop you off on avenida Isidor Macabich or at the port.
Also from the airport, lines 9 and 24 take you to Sant Josep and Sant Antoni, or Es Canar and Santa Eulària, only in summer (€4).
By car. Take the E-20 road to Ibiza.
Arrival by boat à Ibiza
From France, you can reach the town of Alcúdia (Mallorca) by ferry from Toulon in around 15h (Corsica Ferries). From there, several shipping companies operate inter-island connections. Ibiza can also be reached by ferry directly from Barcelona, Valencia and Dénia.
Public transport à Ibiza
Available everywhere, they are very economical, but not very comfortable in the middle of August. Some buses don't have air-conditioning and are often overcrowded at the height of the season. Tourist offices can give you all the information you need on routes, timetables, frequency and special conditions (maps). Leaflets are also available at the main stops. Be careful if you're coming back from the beach: drivers don't accept shirtless tourists..
You can also reach strategic points on the island by boat. These taxi-boats can be found in Eivissa, Platja d'En Bossa, Santa Eulalia and Sant Antony. They provide access to some of the surrounding beaches.
Bike, scooters & co à Ibiza
While a motorized vehicle is essential for getting around the country - a scooter can be a good option, given that journeys are never very long - it's also possible to get around by bike... provided you have a bit of time on your hands.
With a driver à Ibiza
Cab fares are lower than in France, but beware of the various supplements that can quickly drive up prices. Note that since November 2023, the VTC app Uber has been operating on the island (rates similar to those charged by cabs)
Day rate : pick-up €3.65, then €1.09/km.
Evening and weekend rates : pick-up €3.65, then €1.33/km.
Airport and port surcharge : €1.80.
By car à Ibiza
Driving. Your French driving license is sufficient. The speed limit is 90 km/h on roads, 120 km/h on autovies and 50 km/h in town. Seatbelts must be worn, as must helmets for motorcycles and mopeds. Fines are high.
Parking. No parking on sidewalks or at bus stops. Police are particularly strict in some places. There are blue zones (pay zones) in every town, as well as green zones reserved for residents. Under no circumstances should you park in these green spaces, as you risk having your vehicle impounded. The white ones are free (check that there are no timetables to be respected).
Roads. Roads are generally in good condition, although they can be slippery when wet at night. Some roads, especially in the island's interior, have become too narrow for the number of cars on them, making them very dangerous. So be careful on the road!
There are a few things you should know: the permitted blood alcohol level is 0.5 g per liter. This corresponds to two beers or two glasses of wine. It's also forbidden to drive under the effects of drugs, narcotics or other substances, and even after taking medication that may impair the physical or mental ability required to drive motor vehicles. So it's just like being at home, except that here the police aren't always very understanding with tourists.
Service stations. Generally speaking, you'll only find petrol in towns or large seaside resorts. So be careful how much you fill up, and don't hesitate to go to the pump early..
