Read moreA family business founded in 1907, the Chatel distillery strives to sublimate and make people discover the plant resources of Reunion Island through a wide range of rum-based products, enhanced by the unique know-how of Alain Chatel, grandson of the founder. If it has established itself as the historical reference in terms of punches and liqueurs, the company has extended its offer to cocktails, arranged, spiced and flavoured rums. Chatel has even produced from cane alcohol the first brand of Réunionese vodka, now the market leader.

The Mafate Café offers typical Reunionese dishes, such as morning rice, and good "lontan" cakes: chocolate sweet potato fondant, Creole pâté, chocolate banana cake... Traditional ingredients are also used to create new recipes such as the delicious manioc waffle or the chocolate dakatine cake, creations that are well worth a visit. If you prefer, you can have them delivered or take them away.

Even if you don't want to buy anything, take a stroll for the colours, smells and shouts of the vendors. Tourists and Reunionese meet at the small market for this atmosphere!
