It consists of 43 stations and 410 gray and red bicycles distributed between the old town and its suburbs. To take advantage of it, you need to download the "PBSC" app on your smartphone from Google Play or App Store, then create a "Velespeed Nicosia" account. It's easy enough to use. However, many stations are empty, even out of season. The same system also exists in Famagusta.

Read moreThis company provides bus or minibus connections between Nicosia and the airports of Larnaka (40-minute journey) and Paphos (1h40). You can buy your ticket online, and the service is very reliable, with regular shuttles. However, the small bus station from which the shuttles depart is on the outskirts of Nicosia. From Solomos Square, you can get there in 15-25 minutes with urban bus lineno. 3 or 4 (Lemesou Ave.-Ellispontou or Police Headquarters stop), or more quickly by cab (€10/15).

Numerous connections with Kyrenia (Girne) and also with Famagusta (Gazimağusa), Morphou (Güzelyurt) and Lefka (Lefke). Transport by dolmuş (minibus) provided by private companies. Tickets can be purchased at the kiosks of the various companies. And local cabs. Otherwise, the small bus station at İtimat (450 m east of the Kyrenia gate) serves Famagusta only.

Created in 1975, it is located on a former British World War II base and bears the name of Turkish officer Fehmi Ercan (1935-1974), who was killed during the invasion. It is well equipped, but its status as an "international" airport is not recognized: all aircraft must transit through Turkey. There are no flights to France. Inhabitants of the northern zone tend to use the Larnaka airport to reach Europe.

And since most rental companies in Cyprus-Sud won't let you pass the buffer line, it can be very useful to you. It has a fleet of around 400 vehicles with automatic gearboxes, but none with electric motors or 4x4s. Please note that prices on the website are quoted in sterling, not Turkish lira. The company is also present in Kyrenia and at Ercan airport.

Operating in 45 countries, it announces here that it is introducing 1,600 "Bolt 6" models. To use these, download the "Bolt" app on your smartphone from Google Play or Apple Store, then scan the QR code on the scooter. Vehicles can be picked up and dropped off at the points indicated on the app's map.

Read moreNicosia-Sud has more than twenty companies. Here are three reliable ones: Cabcy (+357 22 26 98 06), Taxi Cab (+357 96 68 27 45) and Bolt (+357 22 31 30 61). The vehicles are topped by a TAXI or ΤΑΞΙ sign. Above are the official rates for 2024 (updated on the web page of the Hermes consortium, which manages Larnaka and Paphos airports). Some airlines charge higher fares. Night fares apply between 8.30pm and 6am and on public holidays.

Here are three fairly reliable Nicosia-North companies: Lefkoşa Taksi Durağı (+90 533 875 09 55), Lefkoşa Taksi (+90 533 831 44 43) and Lefkoşa Hastene Taksi (+90 533 875 09 55). For longer distances in the northern part of the region, shared cabs are available at lower fares than those offered by conventional companies.

POLYS BIKES
Read moreThis bike store rents both classic (racing bikes and mountain bikes) and electric (mountain bikes and city bikes) bikes. The range consists almost exclusively of cycles by the Italian brand Bianchi, with which Fausto Coppi and Marco Pantani made their name. Rentals are made on site or by delivery throughout Nicosia-South. It is accompanied by a telephone assistance service for the southern part (in theory, it is forbidden to cross into North Cyprus with a rental bike). Polys Bikes also has a store in Limassol.

It adjoins the former Ledra Palace Hotel, which serves as a barracks for peacekeepers. Less used since the opening of Lokmacı/Ledra Street, this crossing remains interesting with the presence of numerous institutions nearby, in the buffer zone.
