VILLAGE ARTISANAL PACK LAOBÉ

Arts and crafts

During your journey on the Petite Côte, you will surely have noticed wooden or stone sculptures, sand paintings, fixed under glass or colored batiks. Here you are at the place of creation of all these works of art. Sculptors, shoemakers and jewelers, more than 50 artisans work here, in a well organized place where each has its numbered box. The vast majority of works designed here are wood sculptures: The Laobé are indeed renowned for their work of wood. Don't miss Matar Dioum's workshop in box No. 66 (++221 77 631 96 64) and its imposing and dismountable sculptures in case you want to bring one. You can also watch the careful manufacture of the djembés where sculptors, ferrelsewhere and assemblers work together. See Carlos in box No. 61 (++221 77 413 80 49), he will explain the various steps. As you will find in all of Senegal the works of these artists, so much discuss art and price here!

Olivia, whose Senegalese name is Diarra, settled in Ngaparou with her Senegalese husband Thierno, after living in Canada for ten years.
