Otaka offers Japanese fusion cuisine, like these Azorean fish sashimi with jalapenos sauce... simply delicious. For gourmets, two menus, "Classiques" or "Expérience" - in seven or ten courses - allow you to discover the full extent of the chef's talents. You can add a wine and food pairing with a glass of wine to match each dish. An excellent and much-appreciated address, so make sure you book ahead!

Popular with locals who mingle with passing travelers in a lively atmosphere, A Tasca offers tasty typical dishes, fresh grilled fish and Portuguese tapas specialties. On the lower level, you'll find the restaurant's large dining room, often packed to the rafters, and upstairs, a bar to satisfy the thirsty. Good value for money for this simple, authentic tavern. Reservations are recommended, but it's hard to get them on the phone (the restaurant is so crowded they hardly ever answer!).

The dishes are simple, but of good quality: meat, grilled cod, calamari, yellowfin tuna, accompanied by French fries and crudités... Here, conviviality is the order of the day. This small, family-run restaurant is a jewel among nature's jewels. Truly delicious! Don't forget to book, as there aren't many restaurants in the area, and they're often fully booked.

A slightly offbeat Mexican atmosphere. The decor is warm and intimate. In the kitchen and on your plates, all the Mexican essentials: fajitas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, nachos... A little Latin exoticism. As much as we love the Portuguese specialties, this is a bit of a change. What doesn't vary are the quantities, which are as copious as ever. The cocktails are good, with a special mention for the pineapple margarita. Service is friendly and jovial, with a complimentary glass of tequila as an after-dinner drink.

The welcome is friendly, the service fast, and the food homemade. You'll leave this little establishment full and satisfied. Extended opening hours and excellent value for money.

The Terra Nostra Garden hotel restaurant is considered by many to be the best on the island. From the pretty Art Deco room overlooking the garden to the extremely fine dishes, attention is paid to every detail. Service is just as high-class as the restaurant itself: delicate and discreet, in a hushed atmosphere. In the kitchen, Chef Nuno Gonçalves creates perfectly mastered specialties using local and seasonal produce, enhanced by international influences. A true gastronomic experience.

If you're passing through Achadinha on your way down to Poço Azul, a stop at this charming restaurant of the same name is a must! Very pleasant - even if the room can sometimes be a little noisy - it serves tasty Azorean specialities. A buffet menu is available at an unbeatable price, but you'll also find meat and fish dishes, and even a few vegetarian options à la carte. Don't miss the pineapple dessert! Everything is excellent and the service is efficient and smiling, so you're sure to have a good time.

Located in the center of Furnas, just a stone's throw from Terra Nostra Park, this bright, bay-window restaurant offers local cuisine for good value. You can enjoy delicious cozido in generous quantities... as well as tuna and bitoque à regional (steak served with fried egg and French fries). The friendly, English-speaking staff will be happy to advise you. Small terrace in summer to soak up the sun. A safe bet in the city center.

This is one of the two restaurants in Sete Cidades, and certainly the most easily accessible. And for good reason: it is located in the center of the village, in front of the church of São Nicolau. The cuisine is not extraordinary, but the all-you-can-eat buffet at lunchtime will allow hungry people to fill up before, why not, starting a new hike. You will understand that the food is not particularly refined, but you don't have many options in the surroundings so to fill your stomach, it will do the trick!
