LLIGWY BURIAL CHAMBER

Ancient monuments

Lligwy Burial Chamber is a Bronze Age tomb, dominated by a massive stone estimated at 25 tons, on a small path leading out of the village.

A little further on is Din Lligwy, the ruins of an ancient village dating from the Roman Empire. The walls of the huts are still visible. In the field next door, Capel Lligwy is still standing: chapel from the first half of the 12th century. The tomb is not a visit in itself, there is not much to see but it is a very nice walk that awaits you, where you can discover these ruins.

One room has been converted into a didactic museum, which provides information on the island's fauna, flora and geology. Images of seabirds, taken by a camera fixed on a cliff on the island, are broadcast. It is also the occasion for a nice walk around the lighthouse, even if it is closed.

Monuments to visit

In 1840, Gaynor Jones was sentenced to a month's hard labor for stealing some milk. The women prisoners, separated from the men, did the cooking and were sometimes allowed to cradle their children born within the walls... We stroll through the rooms, witness to gloomy anecdotes.

BEAUMARIS CASTLE

Castles to visit

Last castle of the Iron Ring, the iron belt erected by Edward I of England to contain the Welsh, it is not completely finished but very well preserved.

Begun in 1295, it uses the technique of "walls within walls" - to make it even more invincible although it has never known a battle. It therefore combines double enclosure structures, typical of the 13th century, with a central plan. Enjoy a walk on the walls to soak up the atmosphere and admire the view from its superb position overlooking the Menai Strait.
