Ludwig II was very fond of Oberammergau, known for its statues and murals. Even today, the inhabitants of the small community pay tribute to him with several bonfires on the mountain tops and a burning royal crown on the local mountain Kofel. During the fire, a band plays the Bavarian anthem.
