Château de Coulaine is an old family estate, handed down from generation to generation. Vines have been grown here since the ^15th century. In 1534, Coulaine was mentioned by François Rabelais in Gargantua. The Véron vineyard is one of the oldest in Touraine. It is generally said that this terroir gives the wines of the Chinon appellation more roundness than those of other sectors or neighbouring appellations. An estate that has been passed down in the family for 5 generations. The estate, as it is today, is the result of the union of two winegrowing families of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, the Godefroy family and the Amirault family, following the marriage of Hélène Godefroy and Paul Amirault in 1971. The house offers, in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, three bottles: the Domaine, the Vieilles Vignes and the Prestige, in Bourgueil, also three bottles, Les Champs Colesses, Melle Alix and Réserve Gabin. Since the first vines were acquired in 1693, no less than 14 generations have succeeded each other at the head of the vineyard. Since 2009, Rodolphe Raffault has taken over the reins of this 50-hectare estate and has begun his conversion to organic farming. He produces red, white and rosé Chinon, matured in oak barrels in 3 typical troglodytic cellars.
