Read moreIn the heart of the town centre of Toulon this historic monument was built by architect Léon Feuchère and inaugurated in 1862. There are two entrances, one on the boulevard of Strasbourg, dominated by the six muses of the sculptor Marius Mountain, the other on the Victor Hugo square, commonly known as the place de l'Opéra. In addition to the majestic portico and columns, two allegorical statues represent Comedy and Lyric poetry, performed by another Toulon sculptor, Louis-Joseph Daumas.
Entering the opera gives the impression of entering a sacred temple of Art! Inside, everything is gilded, garnet velvet and sculptures… Top point of the main hall, the ceiling painted by Jean-Louis Duveau. The spectator was projected at Classic time in the midst of all these colorful decorations. For music lovers, this opera has exceptional acoustics!
