Read moreThis statue of Napoleon I am the work of Georges Thurotte, who sculpted it in 1974. It recalls the victory acquired on 7 March 1814 by the French armies in Craonne on the Russian armies and prussian, then commanded by General Blücher. The statue was raised on the location of the mill of Vauclair, which served as an observatory during the battle. The wedding of the statue with the landscape is magnificent.

A bronze statue, a poignant work by Hiolle, was installed in his honor on the Place de l 'Ville, on July 20, 1879. The general was represented with his left hand on the heart, the right arm tensed, as frozen at the time he wrote, from the top of the tribune of the National Assembly: «There is echo in France when we pronounce the words honor and homeland». The statue was destroyed by Italian soldiers in 1942 and exploded in June 1951.
