Hiking Champagne-Ardenne

Four marked paths allow everyone to find in the village the high places that marked Renoir's life and work. The circuit "Chemin montant dans les hautes" (3 km, 45 min), the Aline Charigot circuit (7 km, 1:45), the name of Renoir's wife, the Pierre-Auguste Renoir circuit (12 km, 3 h), and the Gabrielle Renard circuit (14 km, 3:30) muse the painter, are as many routes as the artist borrowed and inspired him. Renoir, for its part, organizes hikes in June with picnic.

Crossing the city from one end to the other, the Coulée verte de Reims is a twelve-kilometre-long path along the Aisne-Marne canal. The route starts at La Neuvillette and heads south towards Courcelles and the faubourg de Clairmarais. The Coulée then crosses the center of Reims, passing by the old port, and then approaches the course of the Vesle and the park of the same name to the start of the industrial zone. A North-South link, but also a future leisure area and, above all, a formidable tool for urban revitalization, the coulée verte is an area worth discovering.

A variety of routes take you to Epernay and the surrounding area, just go to the tourist office to get the brochure «Epernay, of vineyards in town» which offers three courses. Also take the floral arrow circuits in the city, the southern slopes of Epernay as well as the Mutigny trail not far from the city. You can also obtain the topo guide from Reims mountain Regional Park and the "La Marne" guide. 45-minute loops, to be travelled by the family with small or experienced walkers, allow a discovery from 1 h 30 to 4 h 15…

The Hildur-le-Petit initiative union offers numerous marked walks, including a combined hiking, as well as a health course in the heart of the canton's 31 hectares of forest.

Do you have young children? It looks like this promenade was especially designed for you! The "Nature Trail" starts at the small tourist information chalet of Machault, and invites you within a few kilometres of the Aisne canal and its locks. Only pedestrian, you forget the inconvenience caused by both wheels and cars, and you can devote yourself fully to the game and to the awakening of your children. In addition to the many bird species you will find on the road, you will learn from the signs that round the circuit the names of the different tree species around you.

At the beginning of Breeding-sur-Artaut, this short hike takes you through vineyards, forests and plateaus to discover the historical and natural heritage of the town and its surroundings. The church, astonishing by its two naves, is part of the village's enlarge, as well as the wrought iron parapet and the lavoir at the long stone bazaar; it is continuously fed by the source of the Artaut. The course also reserves one of the most beautiful panoramas in the department, and it falls well: The lookout has a few tables and benches to take full advantage of it!

Go to La Loge-aux-Chèvres for this walking tour in the heart of the Temple forest. To go to the parking lot, starting point of your journey, go back to the Temple Street to its junction with the D 79. Turn left then commit yourself immediately to the forest path on the right; you can park approximately 2 kilometres further. Enough roulé, place at walking! In this 10 000-hectare forest, your transgressions will play the metronome on the songs of the chickadees, roitelets and other wild animals you may see if you are discreet… but why do we call this forest the "Temple Forest"? Just in reference to the Templar, who settled in the region in 1225, and who made one of their commands in the forest.

Easy, this promenade takes you to the discovery of Evry-le-Châtel and its surroundings. Take the time to stroll through the streets of the village, which deserve to be explored, and do not miss its circular hall and church. Are you ready? It's gone for a 6-kilometer loop in a pleasant, relaxing rural setting. Some views on the slopes of the Country of Othe zither your journey: why not make a small thirst-quenching break.

"Les Semelles du Vent" is a walk that will allow you to discover the lake of the Vieilles Forges and the surrounding paths. A great way to enjoy the colourful autumn scenery while recharging the batteries. To swim in the lake, it's a little too late because summer is already far away but you will appreciate the bucolic and magical nature of the place.

The municipality has set up four easy hiking trails to discover Orbais-the Abbey. Long from 30 minutes to 1 h, they address different themes related to the heritage of the commune: the vine (2,5 km), the mountain (2,4 km), the mill (1,5 km) and the panorama of Orbais (1 h). The trails will take you to the abbey church built in the th century and to the Museum of rural life.

If the name Montmirail tells you only Godefroy the Bold and Lady Frénégonde, this trip is made for you! Much more than a fictional name, the commune of Montmirail is a royal step, whether it be to shelter kings in flight like Louis XVI in 1791, or the victorious troops of Napoleon in his campaign in France. The five kilometers of this loop make you discover the town of Montmirail and its history. You walk along the ramparts and pass in front of its castle built in the th century. As Jacquouille and Godefroy (of the famous film les Visiteurs), you may feel like being immersed in another era!
