Alès SNCF station is a stop on the Saint-Germain-des-Fossés / Nîmes line. This line is known as the "Cévennes line" because it crosses a large part of the region. A ticket office is open every day from Monday to Friday, from 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., and on Sundays and public holidays from 10.25 a.m. to 5.40 p.m.It is served by Intercités trains between Clermont-Ferrand and Nîmes, and by TER and Occitanie bus services. Parking for bikes and cars is available for the convenience of passengers.

Travelers coming from Nîmes, Clermont-Ferrand or Le Puy-en-Velay usually disembark in Lozère at the Mende train station, one of the most important in the area. There is a waiting area open from Monday to Thursday, as well as on public holidays; and a food distributor to stock up on drinks and snacks before each trip. The trips are mainly made by bus and also allow to travel within the department, towards Marvejols or further east towards La Bastide-Puylaurent in particular.
