The oldest departmental museum of Finistère in Quimper presents Breton history and culture since prehistoric times.

The Breton Departmental Museum, created in 1846, is the oldest in Finistère. Leaning against the cathedral, it occupies the former palace of the bishops of Cornouaille. The history and culture of Brittany since prehistory are honoured in the permanent collections. The museum also offers noteworthy temporary thematic exhibitions, organised in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts. Clever: from October to May, admission is free at weekends!

Open all year round. Free admission at weekends, October to May. Low season: Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.30pm; weekends, 2pm to 5.30pm. High season: daily from 10am to 7pm. Free admission for children under 26. Adults: €7. Group (10 people): €4. Reduced rate : 4 € (over 60s, groups of 10 or more, Finistère Passport) Free on weekends from October to May. Guided tour. Gift store. Animations.

Visite de l'exposition temporaire, remarquable, avec une guide enthousiaste et qualifiée. Magnifique architecture de cet ancien évêché superbement mis en valeur.

Très beau musée breton. Personnel accueillant et serviable. Le bâtiment est aussi très bien mis en valeur. Pièces archéologiques, sculptures granit, bois, marbre, terre cuite, vitraux, coiffes, chapeaux, habits, sabots, mobiliers, céramiques...

Exposition étonnante. Tout le monde connaît les divers clichés visant maladroitement les bretons du passé. Mais le détail exposé par la guide sur les us et coutumes de ces vêtements a su capter l'attention des visiteurs que nous êtions .
