LE COMOEDIA ESPACE D'ART
One of Brest's most mythical and emblematic venues, a classic Italian-style theater.
This is certainly one of the most mythical and emblematic places in Brest.
Built in the midst of post-war reconstruction, it immortalizes the style of the 1940s thanks to the joint work of architect Michel Ouchacoff and artist Jean-René Debarre, who designed the site as a classic Italian theatre.
From theatre to cinema, Comoedia was then closed to the public for almost thirty years, before reopening in 2019 to express its potential as an art exhibition space.
Its magnificent rehabilitation has made it possible to develop a new scenography highlighting the spatial quality of the site. The translation of an encounter between two periods, ours and the post-war one, is totally successful. The grandiose of the 1950s coexists with contemporary modularity, to offer a timeless space where many artistic currents meet and dialogue, offering the public a permanent feeling of cultural happening. Many one-off events will be held throughout the year, with exhibitions taking place every three months.
We owe this takeover to a family of enthusiasts, who also want to open this place to unconventional exchanges for an art space, through a privatization offer for cocktails, events to celebrate, so that Comoedia can once again become part of the life of Brest and the heart of Brest.
And a nod to the most discerning eyes, who will certainly have spotted the eye decorating the facade and stage: this one is an architectural reference to the symbol of art, expressing the double potential of this extraordinary place.
