This establishment for artistic creation and production in the public space, installed on the commercial port, was created in the 1980s. For more than 20 years, the National Street Arts Centre has brought diverse art forms to the public and helped thousands of artists to emerge from anonymity. As a space for creation and for welcoming artists in residence, Le Fourneau is an active venue, notably through its performances during the Thursdays in the Port of Brest. It is also a resource, advice and training centre for artists.
