LA GRANGE CISTERCIENNE D'OUDUN
The Cistercian barn of Oulon, built around 1200, has become an outbuilding that serves as an operating and breeding structure.
Before the abbey of Cîteaux, the hermitage of Fontemois finds its origin in 1104 in Joux-la-Ville whose monks found the abbey of Reigny in Vermenton. The barn, built around 1200, became an outbuilding that served as an operating and breeding structure near the abbey of Reigny. The building can be distinguished from the preserved Cistercian barns by its lower room, covered with groin vaults supported by four pillars, and the upper room, which was once barrel-vaulted. Although it is difficult to establish the role of the barn, there is evidence to suggest that it was a place of residence for the monks. Extensive renovation work on the site and gardens was conducted in 2022 so that the site could once again welcome the public for visits beginning in the spring or summer of 2023.
