Perched on a promontory overlooking the Tadami River, Enzoji Temple is a landmark of the Aizu region, founded in 807 by the monk Tokuitsu Daishi. Dedicated to the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, it offers a breathtaking view of landscapes that change with the seasons. Filled with legend, Enzoji is also linked to the origin of the akabeko, the red cow symbol of Fukushima. Every January 7, Enzoji hosts the Nanokado Hadaka Mairi festival, where men in loincloths climb 113 steps and rope the shrine.
