THE FORMER NUMATA FAMILY SAMURAI RESIDENCE

This residence is a fine example of the architecture of a high-ranking vassal in the Edo period. Built in the early 18th century, it was inhabited until the 20th century and miraculously spared by the Iwai River floods. Sober in appearance, it nevertheless reveals its standing through a shoin-zukuri style reception hall and a traditional dry garden. The interior features a number of everyday objects. A pleasant visit in a Japanese atmosphere.
