MURAYAMA CITY IAIDO EXPERIENCE

For an unforgettable immersion in the world of samurai in Murayama, the birthplace of iaido, try one of the experiences offered by the town's tourist office. The picturesque setting of the Hayashizaki Iai Shrine is the setting for the four different services. All activities include a visit to the Hayashizaki Shrine, the birthplace of iaido, and the loan of a kimono and training sword (bring suitable clothing). An English-speaking interpreter is available on request. Several packages are available:

Samurai Experience (2h): Dressed in iaido-gi, the traditional uniform, you'll discover the ways of the samurai and the origins of this art. A kata demonstration is given by a master, followed by the learning of Shohatto kata under his guidance. The experience ends with an impressive demonstration of tameshigiri, the cutting of tatami with a real katana. ¥13,200/person (from 2 people), ¥26,400 on its own.

Private training (5h): an in-depth version of the Samurai experience, with more advanced and complete practice. A souvenir gift is offered at the end. 33,000 ¥/person (from 2 people), 66,000 ¥ alone.

Iaido Experience (1h30): shorter version focusing on kata training. ¥8800/person (from 2 people), ¥17,600 alone.

Samurai Show (40 min): kata and cutting show by masters including Yoshihiro Abe. 55,000 ¥ per group.
