Rice terraces, known as tanada in Japanese, litter the mountainsides like an impressionistic work of art. In Tokamachi, in the Matsunoyama and Matsudai regions, these landscapes are among the most remarkable in Japan. Their appearance changes with the seasons: shimmering in spring and autumn as they reflect the setting sun, they take on a calm white mantle in winter. The rice fields of Hoshitoge, in particular, attract many visitors and photographers every year, captivated by their absolute beauty.
