Founded in 842, Takekoma Shrine is one of Japan's three main Inari shrines. It is dedicated to the fox deities who watch over fertility and the harvest. As soon as you enter, the surprising bright orange torii guide you. The shrine invites contemplation, with its peaceful garden featuring plant sculptures and a tribute to the famous poet Matsuo Basho. Takekoma is also a place that vibrates to the rhythm of the festivals that punctuate the year. An authentic detour far from the crowds.
