MOUNT GAY RUM
Founded in 1703, Mount Gay is the world's oldest working rum distillery. The well dug to collect the water needed for distillation has remained the same for over 300 years!
The story begins with John Sober, who became the owner of a plantation and small distillery on Mount Gilboa. A close friend of Sir John Gay Alleyne, and aware of the success the latter had achieved with the rum produced in his distillery at St. Nicholas Abbey, he asked him to become manager of his distillery. Sir John brought with him a wealth of expertise and a taste for innovation. On his death, John Sober decided to rename the distillery "Mount Gay" as a tribute to him.
Despite its age, Mount Gay continues to innovate, notably with its limited editions where the rum is aged in barrels other than bourbon (Madeira wine, port, Andean oak...), but not only. Since 2019, Trudiann Branker has been the first female master blender in the distillery's history, imprinting her character and creativity into the blending of rums of different ages and profiles to create unique, balanced products, while taking care to maintain the quality and consistency of each batch.
On a classic tour, you'll discover all the distillery's facilities. A kind of living museum, since it's a factory at work. Mount Gay rums and their production will hold no secrets for you. The tour concludes, of course, with a tasting session. The distillery also offers tours with more in-depth tastings, workshops and more.
Would you like to try your hand at the art of cocktails? Their Distillery Tour & Cocktail Masterclass invites you to a workshop where, guided by a mixologist, participants learn how to make their own cocktail. You can also book the cocktail workshop without the distillery tour.
If you're more interested in the art of tasting, the Premium Rum Flight Experience lets you try 8 rums instead of 4, to get a better grasp of the aromas and flavors of rums according to their age, the barrels in which they were aged, etc., in addition to the distillery tour.
An Evening at Mount Gay invites you to an evening tasting with a cocktail and tapas workshop.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can take part in a tasting and lunch at the distillery.
These premium experiences include transport from hotels on the south and west coasts.
