Established in 2004, this national park consists of one of Borneo's last remaining peat forests. The peat, created by the decomposition of accumulating vegetation, allows biodiversity to thrive. Covering an area of 580 km2, the park revolves around the black-water Sebangau River. It is renowned for its large population of orangutans, numbering some 6,000 individuals. Superb treks for experienced hikers are available to Bukit Batu, a hill made of granite rock. Access to the park is usually by boat from Pangkaraya, for more information contact the local agencies.
