The name Nullarbor, not an Aboriginal name as you might expect, but from the Latin meaning "no trees", gives you an idea of what to expect if you embark on the crossing to South Australia. There is some vegetation, but very little housing. It's a pretty incredible road trip, and a must if you want to get from Perth to Adelaide. The Eyre Highway starts at Norseman, where you arrive either from Esperance in the south or Kalgoorlie in the north-west. The distances are enormous, with 700 km between Norseman and Eucla on the Western Australia/South Australia border, then 500 km between Eucla and Ceduna. You'll need to check your vehicle thoroughly before crossing - just imagine how expensive a tow truck would be! And don't forget to bring plenty of water in case of a breakdown, as it's often very hot on the road. The Nullarbor plain is also home to the world's longest golf course. The 18 holes are scattered along the road between Kalgoorlie and Ceduna. Take a look at the Nullarbor Links website and find your nearest golf club!
