ÉGLISE SAINTE-PETKA DE SELNIK

This ^14th-century Orthodox church (Црква Света Петка) preserves damaged frescoes from the ^14th and ^16th centuries, but also from an earlier ^12th-century church. It is dedicated to St. Parasceva of the Balkans, an Eastern ascetic of the ^11th century who substituted locally for Petka, an ancient deity of the southern Slavic tribes. The latter is painted in a niche at the entrance. Inside, there are portraits of the hermit saints Joachim of Osogovo and John of Rila.
