COLLINE DE SVETIGRAD
Natural site to discover
Read moreThe hill of the "Holy City" (Светиград or Svetigrad in Turkish and Sfetigrad in Albanian) is a rocky mass that rises to an altitude of 1,100 m. According to the most widespread theory, the siege of Svetigrad took place here, from May 14 to July 31, 1448. This battle, lost by the Albanians, marked the beginning of Skanderbeg's war against the Ottomans, which lasted until 1478. But some Albanian historians claim that the site of the confrontation could have been in Pelagonia, at Drevenik/Древеник, a hamlet 15 km southeast of Demir Hisar.
