GORGES DE PIRINCANES

Natural site to discover

This rather wild gorge was carved out of pink porphyry by the Rio 'e Forru, which flows along the bottom. It is here that pools of crystal-clear water have formed, as well as the so-called "giant's potholes", i.e. basins carved out of the living rock by all the little waterfalls that dot the area. The largest of these jumps some 20 m. It is advisable to visit this gorge in the dry season, to enjoy the coolness of the torrent, and above all to avoid venturing into it in stormy weather or during periods of high water.

These big temples called "megaron" are characterized by a rectangular plan, unusual in the Nuraghic architecture. The site of S'Arcu 'e is Forros proves to be, to this day, the most important metallurgical center of the Nuraghic Sardinia.
