60 km southwest of Riyadh, the village was founded in the 16th century with the gathering of a few farmers. Today it is a small town of 25,000 inhabitants that perpetuates the tradition of agriculture and especially that of dates. The village also has several horse breeders, the famous Arabian thoroughbreds. Al-Muzahmiya is mainly a weekend destination because of its proximity to the capital. In winter, many city dwellers come here to enjoy a trip to the bright red sand dunes south of the city or to hike in the mountains of the Tuwaiq range that overlook the village to the north.
