Thumamah National Park is the closest protected area to the capital. It is a red sand dune that stretches for about 30 kilometers north of Riyadh. Unfortunately, the park is widely exploited and many camps are set up to accommodate residents in search of nature on winter weekends. Therefore, it is difficult to feel alone in the world and to bring back a souvenir photo that would let you believe that you got lost in the immensity of the desert. The dunes are littered with garbage, concreted with alleys, crossed by street lamps. The camel market which is just next door is worth a visit.
