About twenty kilometers from Ouadâne, on the track that leads to Guelb er-Rîchât, stands the small fort of Aguadir. This building in banco has 4 towers, it is thought that it was built about 5 centuries ago by Portuguese merchants who were trading gum. This fort was later subjected to numerous attacks, notably by the Moroccans, as it is located on the track leading to Timbuktu. It is nevertheless in fairly good condition, although no serious excavation has been undertaken here despite the suspected presence of pottery remains. A project initiated by the Portuguese government plans to remedy this, while restoring this fort.
