Back on the road to Ouargla, 35 km from the junction for Metlili, a road leads to Zelfana where hot springs were discovered in the late 1940s. Rich in mineral salts (chloride and sodium), they emerge from the ground at 45°C and are said to be good against nervous and respiratory diseases, rheumatism and some skin diseases. In the feverish years following independence, baths and several tourist establishments were built here, but today the streets look desolate and abandoned
