CASTEL MONTECHIARO

Thirteenth century castle and gothic style palace in a pleasant setting in Glorenza.
Also known as Castle Lichtenberg in German, this early 13th-century castle with its crenellated fortifications looks really good. Located on a rocky spur in the middle of a forest in the mountains, it was built by the Counts of Tirolo to oppose the Bishops of Chur, who were present on the other side of the valley. In the 14th century, two Gothic palaces were added, rich in frescoes with chivalric themes preserved in the Tiroler Landesmusuem Ferdinandeum museum in Innsbruck. It has fallen into disrepair and is now in ruins.
