Miyama-cho is famous for its hamlets and traditional thatched farmhouses. Kitamura is an area that is home to a particularly large number of these houses. The surrounding landscape, combined with the thatched roofs, offers a peaceful and very scenic setting. On 8 December 1993, the Kitamura region was designated as a preservation area for groups of historic buildings. It is reached by bus from JR Sonobe and Hiyoshi stations.
